What is a garden style bridal bouquet?
– It looks like you went into the garden and cut as many flowers as your one hand can hold!
– The greenery looks wild – stems do not need to be straight!
– Seasonality – what is blooming on your wedding day?
– A small sparrow could fly through the bridal bouquet – the bouquet is not compact, it is airy with twists and turns.
Annika & Max’s Wedding Weekend on Lake Müritz, Germany
Annika & Max decided to make it a wedding weekend celebration to have some quality time with their family & friends, and I was one of the friends! We all stayed together at Haus Heinz am See on Lake Müritz, Germany. This venue is near Müritz National Park which, is a UNESCO world heritage site. I was so excited to attend and then come to find out, make Annika’s bridal bouquet!
What made you choose a colorful floral garden inspired wedding dress?
I didn’t see myself in a white dress, but didn’t know what I wanted instead either. One day I came across an ad from this Chicago boutique, flora & lane, that had the most gorgeous non-traditional wedding dresses. After some convincing that it wasn’t, in fact, crazy to buy a wedding dress online and ship it to another continent, I eventually bought it. Best decision!
What is the design process for your wedding or elopement flowers?
When designing the bridal bouquet for Annika we wanted her dress to be the focus and have her bouquet compliment it. We wanted to keep with the same garden theme with green & white as the focal colors. We added hints of blue in the bouquet & let the yellow flowers on her dress be the “pop of color.” Since she was getting married in July we had many seasonal blooms to choose from.

Annika – I’m still in love with my bouquet and actually sad I didn’t see more of it as the day went on (someone put it in water after we were done taking the pictures). It had lovely colors and I liked how natural it looked. It still amazes me that Tess brought all or most of the flowers all the way from her own field in Sweden. They looked so fresh and perfect!

Garden Inspired Boutonnière to Mini Bouquet
Annika – So, I’ll be the first to admit that having a flower themed wedding was more my idea than Max’s he completely let Tess and me do our thing, but I think when it came to the boutonnière, he just wasn’t sure. Cue our daughter Philine. She saw me holding my bouquet and wanted her own – voilà, mini bouquet.

I remember when Annika ordered her gorgeous floral dress that Max made a mock up with different color suits to see which one would go best with the dress!
How to start planning the flowers for your wedding or elopement?
Annika and I were texting each other one day talking all things wedding planning…
Like many couples, Annika & Max had a COVID wedding. Annika & Max decided to legally get married at a court house in 2020 and waited to have the party till it was safe to gather in large groups again. It was important to them to have quality time with close family & friends and decided to make a weekend of it at Haus Heinz am See!

How to source flowers for your wedding or elopement?
We take the approach of sourcing from our farm and other organic flower farms. We sourced some of the materials from Jessica at Furasens Odlingar. She is a wonderful organic flower farmer florist in Åsarp, Sweden. I find that the best designs come through collaboration!
We were unable to source two flowers locally for Annika & Max’s wedding: rose – Tinkerbell & dahlia – Diana’s memory. We ordered from a wholesaler in Rostock, Germany (the closest wholesaler to the venue) who imported the flowers from the Netherlands.
We strive to reduce the fossil fuel usage with transporting flowers. That does not mean we do not import flowers! We want a person to have the exact flowers they want on their wedding day. It is a balance of sourcing locally and importing from other growers in Europe. This just gives organic flower farmers an opportunity to support each other and helping our community “buy local”.
